What To Do If You Get a Flat Tyre

Short answer: Slow down gently, pull over somewhere safe and away from traffic, and put your hazard lights on. Don't drive on the flat. Then call a mobile tyre fitter to come to you.

Step by step

  1. Grip the steering wheel and ease off the accelerator. Avoid braking hard
  2. Pull over somewhere safe and level, as far from traffic as you can
  3. Put your hazard lights on
  4. On a busy or fast road, get out on the side away from traffic and wait behind a barrier
  5. Call us with your location, car and tyre size if you can see it

What not to do

  • Don't keep driving on a flat. It destroys the tyre and can damage the wheel
  • Don't change a tyre on the hard shoulder of a motorway
  • Don't jack the car on soft ground or a slope

Common questions

Should I use the puncture repair kit?

It can get you to safety, but sealant is a temporary fix and can stop a proper repair later. Tell us if you've used one.
