Tyre Pressure Warning Light On?

Short answer: It usually means at least one tyre is low on air. Check and adjust your pressures as soon as it's safe. If the light stays on or flashes, a sensor may be faulty and the system needs checking.

Solid light or flashing light

  • Solid: a tyre is low. Check all four and the spare if it has a sensor
  • Flashing then solid: often a fault with the system or a sensor

The MOT

On cars first used from January 2012, a tyre pressure warning light that shows a fault can mean an MOT failure. We can replace faulty TPMS sensors on site.

If a tyre keeps losing air

A tyre that keeps going down might have a slow puncture, a leaking valve or a damaged rim. Don't keep topping it up. Get it checked.

Common questions

Do I need to reset the light after pumping up my tyres?

On some cars, yes. You may need to reset the system through the dashboard menu after adjusting the pressures. Your handbook will say.

Why does the light come on when it's cold?

Tyre pressure drops as the air inside cools, so a cold morning can push a tyre that's slightly low below the warning level.
