  3. Stop somewhere safe and call us. We'll come to you there.

If you've stopped on the hard shoulder

  1. Stop as far left as you can, wheels turned left, hazards on.
  2. Get out on the passenger side and wait behind the barrier, well away from traffic.
  3. Call us. Tell us the last junction or the number on the nearest marker post.

If you're stuck in a live lane

  1. Stay in the car with your seatbelt and hazards on.
  2. Call 999 straight away, or press your car's SOS button.

How we help on a motorway

Call us and tell us where you are, which way you're heading and what's happened. We'll give you an exact arrival time and tell you on the call where we'll meet you: where you've stopped if it's safe to work, or the next services, junction or lay-by.

If a recovery truck has already taken you off the motorway, that's fine. We'll come to wherever you've been dropped and fit the tyre there.

More about our 24/7 emergency callouts

Can you come out to a motorway breakdown?

Yes. Call us and tell us where you are. We cover the M40, M25, M1 and M4 near our area, plus the main A-roads around Aylesbury. We'll tell you on the call how we'll get to you.

Can you change a tyre on the hard shoulder?

It depends exactly where you've stopped. The hard shoulder is a dangerous place to work, so we'll talk it through with you on the call. Often the safest option is for us to meet you at the next services, junction or a safe lay-by, or wherever you've been recovered to.

What if I've broken down on a smart motorway?

Some stretches of the M1 and M25 are smart motorways, where there may be no hard shoulder. If you've stopped in a live lane, stay in the car with your seatbelt on and hazards on, and call 999 first. Once you're somewhere safe, call us.

How do I tell you where I am on a motorway?

Tap Send my location on this page and your phone will send us a map pin on WhatsApp. You can also read us the numbers on the marker posts or the blue driver location signs at the side of the road, or tell us the last junction you passed.

Should I drive to the next exit on a flat tyre?

The Highway Code says to leave at the next exit or pull into a services if you can. Drive slowly and carefully with your hazards on. A flat can damage the wheel, but getting off the motorway safely matters more.
